Silverfish Control

Silverfish are known for their destructive feeding habits being nuisance pest. They can cause a serious problem in large numbers – damaging old books, photographs, wallpaper, plaster and other household items containing starch or cellulose. They are a nocturnal bugs and are especially attracted to food sources like paper, book bindings and damp clothing.

Silverfish survive in most environments, but thrive in conditions of high humidity and can often be found in dark, damp areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, basements, laundry rooms and attics.

These wingless insects are characterised by their silvery-blue colour, with long antennae and a carrot-shaped body covered with tiny scales. They have a wiggling movement that resembles that of a fish and are also commonly known as fish moths or carpet sharks.

Some signs of having silverfish problem are: yellow stains on clothing and synthetic fabrics, small holes or notches (known as feeding marks) along the edge of paper, books or wallpaper. They can also be found burrowing in unsealed dried food packets.
